Ganglia is showing IP Address instead of Hostname

Running Ganglia in a private network (e.g. at home) can be a little bit tricky. Especially when you don't have DNS and reverse lookup of IP addresses configured correctly.

To avoid having a list of IP addresses in the Ganglia Web UI, you need to override the hostname in the globals section in the monitoring configuration file.

sudo vi /etc/ganglia/gmond.conf

Add the following line in the globals section.

globals {
 .....
  override_hostname = my_hostname
}

Restart the monitoring deamons on the affected machines with

sudo service ganglia-monitor restart

and you should be good to go.
